Scratch Kitchen
Ottawa, Ontario – August 16, 2011 – Kids from local Ottawa schools are getting a little help from Scratch Kitchen during this year’s Back-to-School season. Eleven thousand Ottawa children in 148 schools begin each school day with a nutritious meal provided by the School Breakfast Program. From August 20 to September 30, 2011, Scratch Kitchen will donate a portion of profits from online and Farmers’ Markets sales to the School Breakfast Program. Scratch Kitchen is at the Carp Farmer’s Market on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m and the Ottawa Farmer’s Market at Lansdowne on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. “Food is the sum of its parts – the quality of the ingredients make up the dish. You put good things in and good things come out of it,” said Chef Sean Murphy, Chef/Proprietor of Scratch Kitchen. “In the same way, you put good food into kids and they are able to kickstart their day – ready to learn,” said Sean. “We have always had a heart for the School Breakfast Program because we believe in the two things that make up the program: good food, and kids’ education,” said Sean. “We decided to partner with the School Breakfast Program because our philosophies were so interrelated,” he said. Two years ago, Scratch Kitchen began delivering frozen gourmet meals made from scratch to homes in Ottawa. Scratch Kitchen uses locally-sourced and organic ingredients whenever possible. All meals are prepared without preservatives or additives, and are low in sodium. “Our menu includes vegetarian and gluten-free dishes. We planned the menu for the global foodie, but we also saved some comfort foods for those days when you just want some home cooking,” said Sean. “At the end of a long day, you can gather at the table and share experiences over a gourmet dinner prepared in minutes,” explained Sean.
